What is a BALTIC BABY?
Since the first decade of the new millennium, a new art form has developed out of the hobby of reborning dolls out of old doll parts.
First in vinyl and then in recent years increasingly made out of silicone due to its durability and mobility, the blanks are (usually) painted by artists using special dyes to achieve the most realistic result possible. The hair, brows and eyelashes are also "rooted" into the blank to create a baby that is almost identical to a real life baby. Since the production of the moulds and the high-quality material silicone are very time-consuming and cost-intensive, the limited blanks often reach prices in the four-digit range due to the small number of pieces that a mould can withstand.
Our models are modelled by outstanding masters of their trade, such as Elisa Marx and Ina Volprich. We, the BALTIC BABY manufacture, build professional moulds from these models to produce perfect blanks that you can buy from us.
The "reborn" babies are used in hospital maternity wards, by midwives and in the teaching of these professions. They can also offer people suffering from dementia in old people's homes an anchor for their memory. Mourning and processing the loss of a child as well as an unfulfilled desire to have a child can be managed with the help of a lifelike silicone baby.
And last but not least, reborning and collecting silicone babies is a very fulfilling hobby for many people, with trade fairs, forums and speciality shops such as BALTIC BABY, comparable in the broadest sense to building and playing with a model railway.
